The Galapagos Islands

I can't say enough about this trip from beginning to end. The experience was exceptional. It is simply amazing how close we were able to get to the birds and reptiles. We walked among them and they just stared back at us. Taking their pictures did not faze them at all.

I made a lot of new friends on the Isabela II. The Isabela II is a small yacht that only holds 40 guests total. There are 3 naturalists on board that accompanied us everywhere. They give lectures on the wildlife and explain the necessity for conservation in the Galapagos Islands. They love what they do and it shows.

The ship’s crew was amazing as well. They were attentive and very helpful. The meals were very good. They even have a doctor on board at no charge just in case of emergency. The yacht is very nice and clean as well as being comfortable.

I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is somewhat fit. The hikes may be a bit challenging for someone who has problems with mobility. The terrain is uneven, a little bit hilly, and there is a lot of loose lava rock.

We thought the weather would be unbearable due to being so close to the equator, but surprisingly is was very comfortable. It was around 75 degrees F. We were told that the temperature does not very much year round.

The air flight to Ecuador can be a bit long depending on where you are leaving from. There are flights from the United States from both Miami Florida and from Texas. I suggest if you depart the U.S. depart from Texas because from Miami airport if there is thunder & lighting happening when you are due to depart you will sit on the plane until it is over. This can be a little annoying if you are not fond of flying or if you are in a hurry to get to your destination.
